Kailifornia Jewelry & Accessories Proud to Participate in the 2nd Annual El Segundo Juneteenth Celebration, Hosted by Black in Mayberry
EL SEGUNDO, CA, June 13, 2023 - Kailifornia Jewelry & Accessories is proud to announce our participation in the 2nd Annual El Segundo Juneteenth Celebration taking place on Monday, June 19, 2023. The event, hosted by the non-profit organization, Black in Mayberry, aims to Combat Racism Through the Arts.
This celebration holds a special significance in El Segundo, a city that has made substantial progress from its past as a sundown town. Historically, sundown towns were communities where ordinances, signage, or practices enforced racial segregation by discouraging non-white individuals from residing or being present after sunset. El Segundo was one such town where, for a considerable part of the 20th century, African Americans were not welcome after dark.
Today, the city has come a long way, breaking from its exclusionary past to become a diverse and inclusive community. The fact that El Segundo is now hosting its second Juneteenth Celebration, a festival highlighting and celebrating African American heritage and culture, underscores this significant transformation.
Building on the success of last year's event, this year's Juneteenth Celebration is moving to a larger venue, Recreation Park, to accommodate the growing number of attendees. The festival celebrates Black excellence in the arts and promotes outstanding Black-owned/BIPOC businesses, including Kailifornia Jewelry & Accessories.
In addition to the joyous celebrations, the event will serve as a reminder of the freedoms we enjoy today due to the sacrifices made throughout our history. The aim is to foster unity and resilience within our community, ensuring the protection of every human being's freedom.
Activities include live music, energetic performances, arts & crafts, a kids' zone, key speakers, community resources, Black-owned vendors, food trucks, contests, and giveaways.
